I’m sorry, but I just have to put my foot down.  And I’d like to put that foot down firmly on the fingers of Bill Clinton and any other fool who authorized “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”  I know that our economy is crumbling.  I know that we are fighting two wars.  I know that Michael Jackson is dead.  But the treatment of gays and lesbians in the military is just so preposterous, offensive, and counterproductive, that I would be remiss if I didn’t publicly disclose my outrage.  I realize that this outrage will most likely be read by 7 internet bots and one online stalker, but it needs to go out into the universe nonetheless.  Perhaps by internet osmosis, Obama will get the message.  If he does, I really want him to read this:

Beyond just how tragic this is for the victim’s family and friends, what kind of institutional message does “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” send to everyone else?  Do we have to carry on puritanical spirit when it comes to sexuality in the 21st century?  I would support “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” if it meant that no one in the military could ever discuss anything related to sexuality, dating, a relationship, or intimacy, regardless of orientation.  I’d like to see how long it would last if a male solider placing a picture of his wife on his desk could be grounds for dismissal.

Don’t keep this policy alive.  Don’t send the message that gay soldiers are worthless.  Don’t let me down, O!
